A volunteer tutor helping one of a growing number of willing studentsOur registered charity has already given free IT lessons to a dozen housebound people in and around Wincanton. But with an ever-growing demand on our services we would like to attract more tutors. If you are looking for a rewarding voluntary activity that you can do locally for just one or two hours a week we would like to hear from you.

ITHelp@Home was founded in 2001 and covers Mendip as well as South Somerset districts. We provide IT training for people who are housebound - people with disabilities or their carers. Training is carried out in clients' homes and consists of up to 12 lessons, normally at an hour a week. If necessary clients can have the loan of one of our laptops.

We enable housebound people to have contact outside their homes by teaching them how to use computers so they can email friends and relatives, access information and support groups on the internet, shop or bank online, write letters, articles or record memories.

Our volunteer tutors only need a basic knowledge of using a computer and the patience to pass on these skills in a one to one situation. We try to match clients and tutors who are local to each other, to keep travelling to a minimum.
