Wincanton Tennis Club has officially opened its four newly-surfaced courts
The four newly-surfaced courts at Wincanton Tennis Club were officially opened on Saturday 9th April by Howard Ellard, the Mayor of Wincanton.
The event was part of the Annual Open Day, where the community was invited to come and join in with tennis activities and experience WTC facilities. Dan Cahill, who is the LTA Level 3 coach based at the club, offered free coaching to adults and juniors throughout the afternoon, despite the very poor weather.
The resurfacing was recently finished and was completed only after four years of fundraising by the members and community. This included Quiz Evenings and two Car Treasure Hunts organised by the men’s A team captain, Andy Newman, and a 12-hour tennis marathon last summer.
“I am extremely proud of our new courts and the time and effort given by our committee and members towards fundraising. We are all looking forward to using the courts in the coming season.”
- Rik Elvidge, WTC Chairman
WTC will be fielding four men’s teams, three ladies’ teams and two mixed teams in local leagues this summer. For further information about the club, please check the WTC website, www.wincantontennisclub.co.uk.
