Wincanton Racecourse

To celebrate the return of racing to Wincanton on Thursday 16th October after its annual four-month break, race-goers will be treated to a parade of racehorses, featuring some of the West Country’s finest stars.

Among those set to parade are Ballynagour and Dell’ Arca, trained by David Pipe, who will reignite the jump season once again. Other big names to parade include the Paul Nicholls-trained superstar Silviniaco Conti, with three Grade 1 wins including the 2012 Betfred Bowl Chase at Aintree and the 2013 King George VI Chase, plus six Grade 2 contests. Horses from the yards of Colin Tizzard, Philip Hobbs and Harry Fry will join the parade hosted by Luke Harvey and Richard Hoiles.

The parade takes place from 1.30pm with the first of six races underway at 2.20pm. Tickets start from £10 - book now on 0844 579 3014 or visit wincantonracecourse.co.uk.

Families & Armed Forces Race Day

Over a year of planning and a multitude of fundraising initiatives, Wincanton’s inaugural Families & Armed Forces Race Day launches on Sunday 26th October. The themed race day has been organised to thank serving military personnel, veterans and their families for their service to the nation and also to raise money for Combat Stress, which provides essential clinical treatment and social support to more than 5,400 veterans across the nation.

More details about the race day and the entry packages for serving personnel and veterans can be found at the website wincantonforcesraceday.co.uk and donations can be made at justgiving.com/combat-stress-raceday.

Further fundraising initiatives involve a silent auction, which is already live, and offers some 74 lots including a sculpture by world renowned sculptor and Falklands veteran, Mark Coreth. For further details and the opportunity to bid visit galabid.com/auction/wincanton.

Another first is the ‘Salute to Combat Stress’ campaign where everyone is encouraged to post a selfie performing a British salute (either Army/Royal Air Force or Royal Navy style) on Facebook and/or Twitter and on the Race Day Facebook page and donate from as little as £1, £3, £5 or £10 to Combat Stress by texting SALU73 to 70070 or visit our JustGiving page. Tickets start from £13 - book now on 0844 579 3014 or visit our website.
