Windmill Farm site benefits, according to the planning consultant

Plans for a housing development on the eastern edge of Wincanton, adjoining the existing houses in Penn View, will be on view for public consultation at the Memorial Hall on Tuesday 25th March.

Flyers headed "Community Consultation" were delivered to homes in the town on Wednesday, causing alarm among many residents, particularly those who will lose their peaceful gardens and beautiful views across unspoiled farmland.

The proposal, for outline permission for residential development at Windmill Farm, Grants Lane, is for 100 houses and public open space.

Published by planning consultants Plain View, the flyers include a map of the site, showing a large space that will effectively link Bayford and Wincanton to the north of the old A303.

There will be information on the proposals and "consultation material" at the Memorial Hall on Tuesday, open from 11.00am to 8.00pm.

You can also visit the website, www.plainview.co.uk/wincanton, and see a brochure with maps and plans, plus a questionnaire on which you can express your views.

Among the comments and information contained in this online brochure is the statement:

"We think it is an excellent opportunity for the town, which could secure long-term housing provision and ensure that Wincanton does not continue to sprawl to the west."

There is already planning permission for several hundred new houses on sites around the town, not yet implemented.

Anyone who is concerned about this proposal – or anyone who believes that Wincanton does need more houses – should visit the consultation exhibition and also read all the information online and fill in the questionnaire.

And look out for the plan coming before the Area East committee of South Somerset District Council, which meets at Churchfields on the second Wednesday of each month.
