A new defribrillator installed at Wincanton Sports Ground

During the Wincanton Sports Ground Open Day festivities on Sat 14th June, the Town Mayor, Mr Deryck Lemon, officially announced and made available a HeartSafe, (Public Access Defibrillator), a defibrillator contained within an illuminated, heated and waterproof box situated on the outside of the Pavilion at Wincanton Sports Ground.

If the need arises that anyone needs to use a defibrillator, they only have to ring 999 and ask for the Ambulance service, give the HeartSafe number which is printed on the outside of the safe and they will be given the code to unlock and access the defibrillator (as you have to ring 999 an ambulance will already be on its way to help).

Approx two children a week die from heart failure in situations where a defibrillator may have saved them.

The £2500 cost of the HeartSafe was raised solely by the fundraising efforts of Wincanton Town FC (Youth Section) over the last 12 months. Because of the heating element and lighting, the HeartSafe had to be installed by a qualified electrician and Clifford T Shean Electrical Contractors from Bourton, kindly installed it for FREE.
