Last Few Days to Recycle Your Christmas Tree
South Somerset District Council is providing local drop zones where you can deposit your redundant (real) Christmas trees. Please note, this service is not for artificial trees!
From now till Friday 15th January you can deliver your Christmas tree to one of the designated drop zones listed below. Residents are asked not to leave any trees at the locations after the shredding date has passed.
- Wincanton - at the Cale Park car park (Recreation Ground)
- Bruton - at the Dovecote car park
- Cucklington - at the Village Hall car park
- Henstridge - at the Village Hall car park
- Milborne Port - at the East Street car park
Shredding will be completed by a team from SSDC on the 15th. When completed the wood chippings will be left in bags so that local residents can take them free of charge to use in their own gardens, usually as a mulch and/or weed suppressant.
“We are pleased to be able to offer this service to residents who may still have their Christmas tree to dispose of. Being able to get rid of your tree, have it shredded and then reuse the wood chippings is environmentally friendly and something a lot of the Town and Parish Councils were keen for us to do.”
- Councillor Jo Roundell Greene, Portfolio Holder for Environment
Alternatively, decoration-free natural Christmas trees under 6ft can be delivered to any recycling centre for composting. If you pay for a garden waste collection, put out your tree next to your bin or sack on your usual garden waste collection day from Monday 11th January.
As a last resort, put your tree next to your refuse on your usual collections day 4th-15th January 2016. However, trees removed in this way will not be recycled, but simply dumped at the normal land fill site.
