It’s that time of year again, and the Christmas spirit is ramping up. Wincanton’s Christmas Extravaganza gets the season formally underway on the afternoon of Saturday 2nd December - a change from the usual Friday night.
Wincanton Community Hospital's Christmas Fayre is this Sunday
The Friends of Wincanton Community Hospital are holding their 2017 Christmas Fayre on Sunday 26th November. There'll be gifts, crafts, face painting, cakes, a bouncy castle, miniature steam train rides, a BBQ and lots more.

There will be plenty of layouts including all the popular gauges, and six traders to help you source the items you're looking for. There'll even be a working mini steam train outside offering rides!
A Christmas Fayre at Ansford Academy
Ansford Academy is holding a Christmas fayre and raffle next week, to raise money to purchase 3D printers and other mobile devices that will help the school to prepare students for today’s technology-rich world.

After a successful debut fireworks display at the Wincanton Sports Ground last year, Wincanton Football Club is gearing up for a repeat this year on Saturday 4th November. Bring your own fireworks to add to the show!
First honey show at Castle Cary
For the first time, South East Somerset Beekeepers will be holding their annual honey show at Castle Cary. There will be honey to try and honey to buy, information and advice on helping and keeping bees and a beekeeping display.
It's Wincanton Carnival tomorrow!
Tomorrow is C-Day! The 2017 Wincanton Carnival will start at 7:30pm, Friday 13th October. What could go wrong? This year, Wincanton spectators will see fifty entries including five full sized floats, and the weather forecast ain't so bad either.
FREE Playdays are back this month at Cale Park
The annual FREE Playdays are back in Wincanton this month, at Cale Park this Thursday 10th August and next Thursday 17th August. Two fun-packed half-days of adventure and play for any young people who can get there.
The 2017 Nicholson Lecture: Defence and Security in Our Times
This year's Nicholson Lecture will be given by Lieutenant General Sir James Bucknall, K.C.B., C.B.E., on Saturday 5th August at 6pm. This event is in aid of Combat Stress, the veterans' mental health charity.
Winky Kicks Cancer 2017 has begun!
The Winky Kicks Cancer 2017 season began on Friday 9th June with an evening of Bingo in the Memorial Hall, and culminates on 5th August with a music festival at the Hunters Lodge, with plenty in between to suit all ages and tastes.
Charlton Horethorne Feast Day returns Saturday 24th June
This summer, Charlton Horethorne will celebrate a Feast Day for the first time in many years. On Saturday 24th June the village will host a day of events and activities for the village community and visitors, raising funds for village societies and clubs.

Wincanton is having its own Great Bake-Off this year and it’s for a good local cause, the Balsam Centre. The Great Wincanton Bake-Off is taking place at Divine Wines on Saturday 17th June. There will be prizes for both adults and children. Read on for more details about how to get involved!
Wincanton Duck Race returns this year on Sunday 14th May
The annual Wincanton Duck Race makes a welcome return for 2017 following a year off. It takes up its position next to the River Cale and the new play area in Wincanton's Cale Park. The fun begins at 1pm and will finish at 4pm. Come along for a family day out. The weather looks favourable, even for ducks!
Hauser & Wirth and Where West Begins celebrate silent cinema
Beginning Friday 12th May, Hauser & Wirth in Bruton is host to a three-day festival of film screenings, live music, talks and more. The weekend also includes events organised by Where West Begins, South Somerset’s new film programme, which shows films, with talks, workshops and other activities, in venues including Wincanton Town Hall.
Support C.A.T.C.H. at their jumble sale this Saturday
The river people are holding a jumble sale this Saturday, 29th April, to raise money to fund the work they're doing to improve the River Cale. Their previous sales have been so successful that for the second year running it'll be held in Wincanton Memorial Hall, the only venue with enough room for all the stuff and things.
The Critical Global Citizen: an interactive talk at the Library
On Saturday 22nd April 2017 at Wincanton Library, Dr. Maureen Ellis will lead an interactive session to explore the individual’s role in the transformative power of language and communication to construct a global community.
Wincanton Carnival AGM tonight: new volunteers needed
The Wincanton Carnival AGM will be held tonight in the Sweetman Hall. The group is looking for more volunteers to help them continue staging this important annual town event. If you are interested in getting involved you are invited to attend tonight and meet the existing committee and volunteers.
Wincanton Christmas Lantern Parade
Wincanton's 2016 Christmas Lantern Parade will be on Saturday 19th November, despite this year's Extravaganza having been cancelled. The parade will coincide with the Town Council’s annual ceremony to switch on the town Christmas tree lights. There'll also be a lantern competition!
