Talk on Charles Darwin and Evolution

Thursday 2 September 2010, 10:34
By John Baxter

Charles DarwinCharles Darwin was a meticulously careful scientist whose great work "The Origin of Species" proposed the theory that all forms of life are caught up in a subtle process of change or evolution in response to changes in the environment in which they operate. Over a century later this is generally regarded in the academic scientific world as one of the greatest achievements of science. On the other hand, particularly in the US, his conclusions are rejected as an attack upon religion.

Edward Gwinell has carefully studied the life and work of Charles Darwin and has presented his findings in well received lectures to a series of church and humanist groups and has been heard by members of the Wincanton Historical Society who thought this would make an interesting topic for one of our lectures.

Come along to the Balsam Centre at 7.30 pm Friday, 10th September to hear what he has to say and if you wish take part in questions and discussion. £2 including refreshments.

I think I'm gonna go, if I'm in town. This stuff fascinates me. I went to a talk by creationists a short while ago, so it'll be interesting to hear from someone else on the subject. Will the event be recorded at all?
