History and Museum Society Talk on Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee
Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee was celebrated on 20th and 21st June 1887 and it was a very grand occasion. Britain and its Empire was at the height of its power, the Navy ruled the waves and the Queen Empress presided over the largest empire the world had ever seen.
Our speaker is Sir William Mahon. He is a retired regular officer of the British Army. He also served in the Honourable Corps of Gentlemen at Arms, the Queen's ceremonial bodyguard. His service for Queen and Country resulted in his developing an interest in Queen Victoria - who also spent a night in Wincanton as a young girl - and the talk he will be giving should be fascinating. Coming as it does just after Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee the timing could not be better. So this is a talk not to be missed.
Friday 20th July at 7.30pm in the Balsam Centre, Wincanton BA9 9HB. Telephone 01963 31842. Email: .
