Opticians Walk Raises £500 for Balsam Centre Project

On Sunday 27th April 2014 all the staff at Robert Friths Optometrists Wincanton escaped from the practice to be let loose on a 10 mile walk around Stourhead. All of this was for a worthwhile cause to raise much needed funds for the local Balsam Centre and their Men in Sheds Project.
The weather did not play ball though, as the heavens decided to open – good job for waterproofs! When the rain eventually abated we were all encouraged by the support received from those visiting the gardens and their donations.
All came together on Wednesday 18th June when we presented the cheque for £500 to Sue and Annette from the Balsam Centre, accompanied by Gordon, Paul and Bill from The Men in Sheds Project. This was followed by a tour of the Shed and current projects and then much needed coffee and cake in their Loose Ends Café (highly recommended!)
The Men in Sheds project is a workshop where men can come and either work on their own DIY project or work together to complete other projects, learn new skills or mend and repair.
Now all of the blisters have healed up and we are back in our consulting rooms this leads onto thinking about next year’s adventure for The Balsam Centre… any ideas?
