Museum Talk - The Wincanton Window: A Contemporary Archive

Friday 23 March 2012, 11:07
By John Baxter

Come and hear how the Wincanton Window got started. Come and a slideshow of some of our enormous collection of pictures taken from our 800 articles. Be reminded of some of our recent history. Were you there?

Since it was launched in October 2009 the Wincanton Window has grown steadily from zero to 5,000 visitors a month. Increasingly people are turning to it to see what is going on and more and more individuals, businesses and organisations are using it for local news, information and opinion.

This makes the Wincanton Window not only useful for today, but a record and archive for the future - something the Museum Committee is well aware of and hopes to make the most of when it re-opens in the Library.

Bearing in mind what a fascinating lot we are and what an interesting place we live in this should be a good evening.

Friday 30th March in the Balsam Centre at 7.30pm. £5.00 or free to members.

On Friday March 31st we were introduced to the 21st century by John Baxter a brilliant photographer. He demonstrated ways of effective communication and storing archives of history.
His enthusiasm captured the audience and successfully showed the way forward.
Many of our Museum artifacts have been photographed and we can add these visions on a wide Screen.
The beauty of modern technology is that our history can be recorded and kept intact for the next generation on a tiny hard_-drive (That a little memory bank) no bigger then your mobile phone.
Thank John

And do not forget the Wincanton and District Museum and History Society has our own web-site, so take a good look at it. Ask Google or go direct to:

www.wincantonmuseum.org.uk

We are now working hard to update it and makeit a real local history resource. Lots of opportunities for more people of all ages to get involved.
