FREE Playdays are back this month at Cale Park
The annual FREE Playdays are back in Wincanton this month, at Cale Park this Thursday 10th August and next Thursday 17th August. Two fun-packed half-days of adventure and play for any young people who can get there.
Local author publishes First World War novel
Sarah Caundle, who lives in Templecombe, has just published her first novel. Her fiction explores the impact of the War on loved ones at home as well as the men at the Front, and was inspired by a visit to the Devonshire Cemetery on the Somme.
Wincanton remembers the Battle of Passchendaele VIDEO

The Jar Family will be performing at Caryford Community Hall, Castle Cary on Saturday 29th July. At a recent gig at the David Hall, South Petherton they received a standing ovation and it was said to have been the best show at the hall in 14 years.
Shiny new picnic benches for Cale Park play area
The recently refurbished play area at Cale Park now has two shiny new picnic benches. They are adjacent, and both overlook the sandpit and swings where the littlest people are likely to spend most of their time.
New trading barn at Kimbers’ Farm Shop
The Kimber family is opening a new trading area in the Dutch barn next to their popular farm shop. The Somerset Trading Barn will be officially opened on Sunday 30th July by local journalist and food writer Fanny Charles.

At long last the public toilet at Cale Park has re-opened, and there's a brand new drinking water fountain in the play area! Since the play area has received a huge upgrade it has been so popular the Town Council has prioritised getting the amenities up and running.

Pizza Palace & Burger Bar opened in Wincanton, on Monday 19th June, in the shop that used to be Amin's Indian restaurant. They offer a wide range of pizzas, as well as burgers, sides and kids' meals, and pride themselves in only using fresh ingredients.

The annual Winky Sixes football tournament took place over the weekend of Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th June. Youth football teams from under 7s to under 15s from all over the Southwest gathered at Wincanton Sports Ground for the tournament.

Drivers can now buy fuel at Morrisons in Wincanton 24 hours a day, seven days a week, as part of a plan to upgrade its fuel services throughout the UK. The kiosk will still close at 11pm nightly, though.

Wessex Water is currently conducting major water improvement works in the Rick Hayes residential estate in Wincanton. Work began on 1st May 2017 and is scheduled to take up to 29 weeks to complete.
Beautiful stained glass window damaged in Parish Church burglary
The Parish Church of St Peter & St Paul in Wincanton was burgled some time during the night of Friday 16th and the morning of Saturday 17th June 2017. The forced entry caused damage to two of the stained glass windows.
